Moderation for 2021
Moderation is one of the ways Careerforce maintains a consistent high quality level of assessment.

Careerforce Assessors are required to go through an annual registration review.  Part of this review is to ensure that each assessor meets their moderation requirements.

This year, we are looking at taking a more targeted approach to moderation.  We will be reviewing trainee results that you have submitted and requesting specific samples for you to submit. Samples will be informed by the 3 year moderation plan here.

As always, if you have assessed a unit/module that you feel moderation feedback would be of benefit to you, please do not hesitate to submit this to the National Moderators at moderation@careerforce.org.nz.

We are also running Assessor and Moderation Hubs (Wānanga Mātauranga) this year and would encourage you to attend one in your area. The schedule and sign-up for these workshops is on our website here.

Updates on expired unit standard versions
Please be aware of the unit standard versions below that expired in 2020.

09694: Demonstrate and apply knowledge of communication process theory (version 7, 5 credits) – the last date for assessment for this version was 31 December 2020. The latest version – version 8 (4 credits) – is now available and must be used. If you have assessed version 7 and are needing to report learner results, please submit the result as version 8 so it can be accepted.  We recognize that the change in credit value may create some issues and our teams will be making contact with workplaces to discuss these.

09681: Contribute within a team or group which has an objective (version 6, 3 credits) - the last date for assessment for this version was 31 December 2020. The latest version – version 7 (3 credits) – is now available and must be used. If you have assessed version 6 and are needing to report learner results, please submit the result as version 7 so it can be accepted.

Careerforce offers training for new assessors throughout the year.  All new assessor applicants must attend a 2-day Initial Assessor Training (IAT) course once their Careerforce Registered Assessor Application has been approved. If your organisation wishes to have an additional assessor trained, please contact your local  Careerforce Workplace Advisor to discuss.
The assessor registration flowchart can be found here.

To print or not to print, that is the question
Aka Toi is Careerforce’s online learning platform, so the expectation is that printing is not required. But you might ask, what about the signature required on the downable tasks, eg observations?

The answer is a physical signature is not required for Aka Toi modules; ie the document does not need to be printed just to be signed.

However, there are a few essentials:
The task must be marked, and preferably uploaded, on Aka Toi.

Observer:       the observer’s name and contact details must be typed in.

Assessor:       a document that has been completed by an observer and emailed to an assessor or uploaded by the trainee, does not need to be downloaded and printed to add a signature (comments can be added within Aka Toi in the Marking area). The assessor’s unique login identifies the assessor and time it was marked.

Because of this, just a reminder, do not share login details.

Using Aka Toi as an assessor
Would you like more information about using Aka Toi for marking?

Our eLearning Operations Team offer coaching sessions for assessors. See the video for more information.
